A Look at Online Data Entry Jobs

Data entry is one of those online jobs that many try to get into at some stage or other. If you’ve looked it up, you’ve probably heard that you can make thousands of dollars in a single day!

Don’t be fooled.

Here’s the truth: There are legitimate data entry jobs out there, but you’re probably not going to be making thousands of dollars a day. This is not the kind of online opportunity that is going to make you a ‘millionaire’ overnight!

One online data entry job that I have successfully used goes by the name “Local Data Entry Jobs”. You can sign up to start making money here – Local Data Entry Jobs

That being said, it is definitely possible to earn a tidy income with data entry; enough to even make it a stable and regular income stream – provided you’re willing to do what it takes!

“What is Data Entry?”

When you boil it down, data entry work isn’t all that complicated. As the name implies, you’re basically going to be typing out various forms of data.

The exact specifications can vary a lot from task to task, but some of the common data entry jobs out there include transcribing audio into text, inputting values (numbers, names, and addresses at times) into a database, as well as collecting data from the internet (website URLs, names, and so on) and putting them into a text file.

Some data entry jobs even simply involve filling out CAPTCHA fields.

In a nutshell, it really is a lot of grunt work – but these kinds of jobs do exist and somebody has got to do them. So if you’re interested in earning some cash, that someone could be you!

Legitimate Data Entry Jobs

Part of the reason why many people regard data entry jobs as ‘scams’ is because they get into it based on the promise of amazing potential earnings, and then find out later that it simply isn’t true.

Then again, there are indeed many data entry scams out there on the Internet.

Still there are legitimate data entry jobs out there, it’s just that finding them can be quite tough.

As a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t enroll in any data entry website that asks you to pay upfront. There are some out there that do actually provide you with some data entry jobs – but paying for them is not a good way to start out.

On the whole, you’ll find that most of the legitimate data entry jobs can be found via job boards, job search engines, and freelance websites. Here are a few resources that you can check out to locate some legitimate data entry jobs.

Job BoardsWAMH, WhyDoWorkRat Race Rebellion

Job Search Engines – You can try any legitimate job search engine. (E.g Indeed, CareerBuilder, Monster)

Freelance WebsitesOdesk, Gofreelance, Freelancer

Admittedly, there are tons of other legitimate sources of data entry jobs online – and so long as you’re willing to spend time separating the scams from the real jobs, you should be able to find them!

Improving Your Income from Data Entry Jobs

Once you’ve actually found some data entry jobs, the problem you’ll face is that the income might not be as lucrative as you’d hoped.

To improve your income, there are two key areas that you can work on:

Improve your typing speed!

Try to aim for at least 60 words per minute, but if you can go higher than that – great. The faster you’re able to type, the faster you’ll be able to enter data and the more jobs you’ll be able to work your way through.

Line up continuous sources of work!

Don’t wait till you’ve finished one job before going out there and finding the next one. Ideally, you should have enough work already lined up so that you constantly have something to do.

Assuming you follow these two tips, you’ll find that your income from data entry jobs can actually be steady, dependable, and not too shabby at all.

Play your cards right, and you’ll find that data entry is an online opportunity worth pursuing!
