10 Awesome Ways to Come Up With Niche Ideas

When I first began my Internet marketing journey, I had no problems coming up with niche ideas. I already knew what niches I wanted to get into. I built my first set of websites based on the niches I was interested in and all was fine until I wanted to build more websites.

What niche should I get into next? My mind went blank. I couldn’t come up with any niche ideas. I struggled with this for a while before I finally decided to research other ways to come up with niche ideas. After using the methods that I learned about from my research and own discoveries, I ended up with a long list of niches that I could get into.

Now, I am going to share the methods that helped me discover so many new niches.

1. Examine Your Problems

Sit down with a pen and paper and think about the problems that you are facing in life. They can be strange to simple to complex – anything really.  Now, write those problems down. After you are done with the list, go through each problem and ask yourself if you would be willing to spend money for the solution. If you answer yes, put a checkmark next to the item. Now, look at the items with a checkmark next to them and do some niche research.

2. Examine Your Hobbies

Again, grab a pen and paper and think about your hobbies. Which hobbies do you enjoy doing? Are you willing to spend money to enjoy this hobby? If you would spend money on this hobby, add it to your list.

3. Ask Friends and Family

When you have some time to talk to some of your friends and family, ask them what they think you are very good at. It would be a good idea to have a pen and paper nearby so that you can take notes. You could also use your smartphone to take notes if you don’t have pen and paper handy.

Next, you can ask them about their current goals. What do they want to achieve? Do they have any problems that they need solved? A casual conversation with friends and family can bring forth plenty of niche ideas if you really pay attention.

4. Flip Through The Yellow Pages

Find your phone book and start flipping through the Yellow Pages. You will discover all types of businesses and services grouped by different categories. The way things are grouped in the Yellow Pages makes it easy to find sub-niches (niches within a main niche).  I have found this to be extremely helpful for setting up an offline local business.

5. Thesaurus.com

Synonyms and antonyms aren’t the only things that you can find at Thesaurus.com. You can also find plenty of niches. Go to Thesaurus.com and type in a broad phrase. It could be anything like dog training, baking, diamond ring, etc. You might want to start with a phrase that you have some interest in though.

Once you have completed your search, look for the “related topics” section. It should be on the right or left side of the page. You will see a list of phrases or topics related to your search. Those topics are what you could call sub-niches since they have something to do with the main topic or niche that you typed into the search bar.

When I did this for the phrase “weight loss”, I discovered several sub-niches within the weight loss niche like “teen weight loss tips”, “printable weight loss charts”, and “best anti-depressant for weight loss”. What’s great about this method is that you can go even further with your research. Once you see the first list of related topics, you can click on a topic within that list to get a new set of related topics.

6. Yahoo Answers

Go to Yahoo Answers and check out some of the main categories. Now, take a look at the categories within the main category. Once you have found a category that interests you, take a look at the questions that people are asking.

Can you answer any questions without doing any research? Which questions are getting asked over and over again? Are there paid solutions for the problems people are having?

If you spend some time evaluating the types of questions being asked at Yahoo Answers, you could end up finding a great niche to get into.

7. 43Things

43Things is a website that allows users to list goals that they want to achieve. If you visit the main homepage and look at some of the things that people want to do, you will start to see tons of niches that you could possibly get into. Take a minute to check out the website and see what types of goals people really want to achieve.

8. Amazon Best Sellers

Short on niche ideas? There are tons of niche ideas waiting to be discovered at Amazon. Go navigate through any category on Amazon and check out the bestsellers. You will discover the top products people are buying in each category. Browse through the best-selling books and magazines to find more informational type niches.

9. Flippa

Flippa is a website that lets people buy and sell websites. It’s also a very good place to find niches that you can tap into. All you need to do is take a look at the websites that actually sold on Flippa. Use the search function to list recently sold websites that generated revenue.  Then browse through the results. What you will be looking at is a list of profitable niches that you can get into.  Do not get discouraged by thinking your niche type site is “already overcrowded”.  The beautiful thing about good niches – there is always room for one more.

10. Visit Your Local Library

Libraries are packed with niche ideas. All that you need to do is spend some time hunting for them. Visit the non-fiction section of your local library and just take a look around. Go over to the magazine section and browse through some of the magazines that you interest you.

You may not even have to leave your home. Your local library may have a website that you can visit to find niche ideas. When I went to the website of my local library, I was able to search for topics and sort them by subject, type of material, and even popularity. I was also presented with related searches.

So, the next time you are running low on niche ideas, try the library.

That’s it folks. Now, you know of 10 different ways to come up with niche ideas. The main thing here is that no one should ever run out of ideas to focus their niche blog or website or product on.  If you are struggling to come up with new niche ideas, try one of my tricks above.

10 Ways To Get Referrals for GPT Sites – Part 2

In part 1 of this series, we talked about ways to get referrals online. In the last part of this series, we will be talking about things that you can do in the real world to get lots of referrals for your GPT sites. With that being said, here are 5 great ways to get some referrals offline.

6. Business Cards

Print out some business cards with your referral link on it and leave them everywhere that you can. Here are some things that you should do if you want to achieve the best results.

  1. Create eye-catching business cards that get the main point across in as little words as possible. Use a short but attention-grabbing headline. Then, include a very short description of the opportunity or a small list of benefits.
  2. Include a link to your website instead of a referral link. Your website will encourage those who check out the opportunity to sign up. On your website, you can show people how it works and proof it works. Often, this works better than just sending them directly to the GPT site.
  3. Leave your business cards in places where your target audience may be. Since many people could use some extra cash, there are many areas that you could target. Loan establishments, colleges, discount stores, and unemployment offices are only a few examples of great areas to leave or handout business cards.
  4. Include your contact information. People may want to ask questions about the opportunity. Make sure that they have a way to contact you to get the answers they want.
  5. Let others help you pass out your business cards. If you have relatives or friends that own a business, ask them if they could hand them out. You could also just give them some business cards and ask that they pass them out when convenient for them.

7. Flyers

Flyers are a great way to promote a business or opportunity. Using flyers may seem old-fashioned but it has been around for so long because it works. If you can craft up some attention-grabbing flyers and put them in the right areas, you could get a lot of referrals for your GPT sites.

8. Word of Mouth

I’ve gotten quite a few referrals just by telling family and friends about the opportunity. You can use the “word of mouth” approach to get referrals too. Start by telling your family and friends about the opportunity. It is even better if you can show them exactly how it works. Get them in front of the computer and then let them watch over you as you explain how it works.

Don’t stop with family and friends. Pass the word along to co-workers, neighbors, and even strangers if you are comfortable with it. It’s best to have some business cards with you when talking to people that you do not know well because you probably won’t have enough time to fully persuade them. By leaving them with a business card or flyer, there is still a chance that they may check out the opportunity.

9. Promotional Freebies

If you are serious about getting referrals and don’t mind making an investment to grow your referral base, you may want to try buying some promotional items, such as pens, magnets, and key chains, that you can give away to people for free. The goal is to get your referral link or website lots of exposure. This can be achieved if you give away lots of promotional items with your link branded on it.

10. Local Classified Ads

Pay to place an ad in your local newspaper. Lots of people read newspapers and free classified papers. Get your message across to them and you could find yourself with a nice amount of new referrals.

This concludes the series on getting referrals for GPT sites. If you want more in-depth information about getting referrals, consider checking out my other articles about GPT sites.

10 Ways To Get Referrals For GPT Sites – Part 1

Many “Getting Paid To” sites have referral programs where you can refer other people to their site. If the referral signs up, you earn additional money on top of your current profits you are making on the site itself.

For example, you may be able to earn 20% of whatever your referrals earn on the GPT site. Following this example, If you were to refer 100 people to the GPT site and each of them earned $20 per month, you are looking at an extra $400 in earnings.  Not bad.

If you are already using GPT sites to make cash, referral programs are a great way to increase your overall earnings. If you take advantage of these referral programs and refer lots of people to the GPT sites that you participate on, you could eventually make money without much effort.

In other words, you can sit back and let your referrals make you money. However, you still need to make an effort to help your referrals along the way and answer any questions they may have. So, it’s not like getting thousands of referrals and bam – you are making a few extra thousands a month without doing anything.

If you want active referrals who will make you some extra money in referral commissions, you need to encourage them to be active and offer to help them get started.  Teach them the tricks you use and the trip-ups you have had on GPT sites and it will be rewarded.

If you go about it the right way, you can really make a mint using GPT referral programs.  After time, it is possible to make fairly easy residual money by working hard for referrals up front.

So, how do you even get referrals? In part 1 of this 2 part series, you will learn 5 different ways to get referrals online. Part 2 will reveal 5 different offline methods that you can use to get referrals.

Let’s get started.

Getting Referrals Online

1. Banner Advertising

Many GPT sites provide members with promotional banners that they can use to recruit referrals. You can take these banners and advertise them over the Internet.

There are several ways that you can go about it. If you are a member of some forums that allow users to put banners in their signature, you could try adding your promotional banner to your signature and participate on the forum to get your banner exposed to potential referrals. This method works best when you are participating on forums related to making money.

You could also find some websites that offer banner advertising and pay to have your banner placed on websites that may help you gain some new referrals. You need to have some basic knowledge of media buying before trying out this method or else you could lose money or get ripped off.

2. Videos

There are many videos about GPT sites sitting on YouTube right now getting lots of views. The ones who are getting all those views and have their referral link in the description should be getting a nice amount of referrals.

You can take a similar approach. Create some videos about the GPT sites that you are a member of and post them on popular video sharing sites such as YouTube. You can show off payment proofs, create tutorials on how to use the site, or just give basic tips on how to make money with GPT sites.

If you can properly optimize your videos with keywords, create engaging videos, stay consistent, and promote your videos, you could start getting a steady flow of referrals coming from your videos.

3. Forums

One way that people learn about making money online is by frequenting discussion forums that focus on the topic of making money on the Internet. There are a number of these types of forums online.

Find a few of these forums that allow you to have a link your signature, join, and participate – keeping mind of the forum rules. Try not to drop your referral links in your signature right off the bat. Contribute to the discussions for a week or two and then add your referral links in your signature.

Don’t just add a raw referral link to your signature. Be creative and add some text that will lure browsers to check out your link.

And don’t forget to check out the actual forums of the GPT sites themselves. Many members are able to get new referrals just by regularly posting on the forum of the GPT site.

4. Social Media

Everyone is using some form of social media these days whether it is Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or even Tumblr. If you already have some friends, fans, or followers on some of your social media profiles, tell them about how you are making extra cash from home for free.

Share some of your proof of payments, post some videos you have made, or just bring it up in a casual interaction. If they want more information, send them your referral link, or even better, a webpage that explains how it works and gives visitors access to your referral link.

This method is better because some GPT sites prohibit members from posting referral links on social media sites. However, there is nothing wrong with sharing a link to your own website which has your referral links listed on there.

5. Email

There is a nice little feature that most people don’t use when it comes to emails. Signatures!  Every time you send an email, you can include a custom signature. Your signature can include just about anything you want, and GPT referral links are perfect.

You can add a little snippet about how you make free cash and include your referral link. Here’s an example. Cashcrate helps fill my tank for free! Click Here if you want to learn more :)”.

This concludes part 1 of this series on getting referrals. If you want to learn about even more ways to get referrals, be on the lookout for the second part of this series.

Get Paid to Test Websites

How would you like to help a company improve their website and make some extra money at the same time? You can do just that by joining legitimate online companies that pay you to test websites.

How it Works

Website owners want to make sure that their website functions properly and provides visitors with a great user experience. One way that they can get the feedback that they need to make improvements to their website is by purchasing website usability tests through a company that provides usability testing.

Once a website owner purchases a usability test, the company then selects qualified individuals from their pool of website testers to test the clients’ website. Everyone ends up benefiting.

Website owners get valuable feedback about their website from individuals that they specifically target. This feedback can help them improve their website which can lead to an increased user experience, happier customers, and better conversions.

The company makes money from its clients who purchase these usability tests. The people who actually test the websites get paid to do so.

What You Need

If you want to be one of those people who get paid to test websites, there are a few basic things that you will need.

1)    A computer with an active Internet connection

You can’t test websites if you do not have a computer with access to the Internet. It may also be a good idea to have the latest version of Java installed on your computer since you may have to use a web-based screen recorder that uses JavaScript.

2)    A microphone

In a majority of cases, you will be required to record yourself making comments about the websites that you test. You will need a microphone to accomplish this. Remember, website owners want to hear what you have to say while you are testing out their website.

3)    A webcam

Not all usability companies require their testers to have a webcam but some do. So while you don’t necessarily need a webcam to make money testing websites, it can come in handy since some companies do want you to use a webcam.

Many people are not comfortable in front of a webcam so it’s less competition for you and possibly more money that you could earn if you had one.

How Much Can You Make?

Many of the usability companies pay testers $10 for every test that they successfully complete. Tests usually take 15-20 minutes to complete. That is not bad for 20 minutes of work.

The downside is that you may not receive many opportunities to test websites.  If you do end up getting quite a few invitations to test websites, you may not always qualify to take them. This is why shouldn’t count on making steady income from website testing.

How to Get Started

It is quite easy to become a website tester. All that you need to do is join some of the usability companies that recruit paid website testers. Here are few good ones to get you started.

Keep in mind that you may have to provide a sample video in order to become a paid website tester. Make sure that you take the time to read over the instructions for submitting your sample test video.

Many of the sites provide useful videos and tips to help you become a great website tester, so take the time to learn what it takes to get the job done. Doing so will increase the likelihood of being approved as a paid website tester.

Tips For Success

If you want to make as much as you can from website testing, there are few things that I recommend you do.

Join Several Paid Website Testing Companies

These gigs pay quite well so you know that there will be many others out there just waiting to land one of these paid website testing gigs. One website even states that they have more testers than work opportunities. In order to improve your chances of getting website testing opportunities, you should join as many sites as you can.

Respond Quickly

These website testing jobs fill up quickly. This is to be expected when there is a large panel of website testers and jobs that only require a few website testers. This means that you need to respond quickly when you do get invited to test a website. Turn on email notifications and check that email often.

Keep Your Profiles Up to Date

Demographics are very important when it comes to website testing and landing paid website testing opportunities. Make sure that you fill out your demographic profile and keep it up to date.

Become a Great Website Tester

Lastly, do the job well. Follow the tasks laid out for you, speak clearly, and provide detailed feedback that the website owner will find helpful. It’s not about praising a website but providing honest feedback about your user experience.  In the end, this will get you more jobs and better job reviews.  It is possible to get REALLY good at this and open your own business as a User Testing Consultant.
